About
The Bureau of Emergency Services has made
significant advances in Fire Training. We currently employ five
State Fire Instructors as well as five County Fire Instructors. The
County Fire Instructors present the same courses as the State Fire
Instructors resulting in the same certification. The only difference
is that the County pays the tab when we use County Fire Instructors.
We anticipate the addition of one more SFI and one more CFI.
This combination of State and County certified
Instructors will give us more flexibility in presenting smaller
classes held at firehouses and ambulance corps. The registration
process is the same, just fill out our on line registration form no
more than 60 days in advance. The only missing ingredient is the
trainee.
State Fire Instructors are:
Jim Matero, Jim Carney, F.J. Spinelli, Charles Eberhardt
and Charlie Liggio.
County Fire Instructors are:
Drew Kinash, Cris Dellaripa, Brian Lena, Chuck Lewis and Dominick
DeBellis
We are always looking for ways to improve our
training site. We are in the process of redesigning our dry hydrant
(yard hydrant) and are exploring the possibility of installing a
roof simulator. Next year we will replace the Flashover Building
with money obtained through the assistance of Senator Vincent
Leibell.
Please remember that use of the Fire Training
Facility must be in accordance with established procedures. If using
the facility without a CFI or SFI, there must be a training
technician on site who has been pre certified by the Bureau of
Emergency Services and designated in writing by the local Fire
Chief.
It is the philosophy of this Bureau that
effective training is important for firefighters of all levels.
However, safe training
is absolutely essential.
